Expert Advice - Choose the Perfect Tile

Join our very own Jim Aaron, VP of Merchandising for Carpet One Floor & Home, for some information on the three basic types of tile flooring: ceramic, porcelain, and stone.

What are the Different Types of Tile?

There are three main types of tile: ceramic, porcelain, and stone.

Porcelain and ceramic tile are the most common residential and commercial flooring options. All porcelain tiles are ceramic, but not all ceramic tiles are porcelain. Porcelain is heated at a higher temperature which makes it dense and resistant to moisture. They are also a great option for outdoor patios. Both ceramic and porcelain are available in traditional tile looks and a wide array of vibrant or neutral colors, and even follow trends like wood look. In addition to our affordable tile options, we also offer high-end stone tiles. Stone is unique because each tile features its own mineral pattern, and no two stone slabs look exactly alike.

Where Can Tile Be Installed?

Since tile is inherently durable and resistant o moisture, you can have it installed anywhere in your home. Ceramic and porcelain are especially popular in kitchens, bathrooms, and laundry rooms. You can also have tile installed in living rooms and basements. Other tile options such as porcelain and stone can even be used outside as a patio or walkway.

As we mentioned earlier, tile can be installed on more than just floors. We offer tile that can be installed on walls, and even tile that can be installed as a custom shower stall. To learn more about tile applications, stop by our showroom and speak with our flooring professionals.
